A nursing school in New Orleans was recently named among the best nursing schools in the country.
Loyola Nursing School was named as having one of the nation’s best online graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report’s Top Online Education Programs in 2012.
Just a few years ago, an online nursing school seemed to be an illogical endeavor for anyone serious about nursing. However, new reports are proving that not only can nursing school be done with online technologies, but it can be done well. Take for example the newest 2012 edition of the U.S. News and World Report’s rankings for top educational institutions in the country. Online education is a new addition to the report, a genre of higher learning that is becoming more relevant as technology makes it possible to accomplish so much from a remote location.
Schools like the University of Florida, Duke University, Arizona State, Loyola University Chicago, and St. Louis University made the top 5 list for nursing schools that offer most of their curriculum online. The nursing school ranking report looked at more than 450 accredited nursing schools that offered at least a master’s or doctorate level degree program. To make it on the qualifying list to be ranked, the school had to offer at least 80% of the instruction online.
Nursing schools were ranked based on several categories that included accreditations, enrollment selection processes, professional staff and teaching credentials, as well as student interactions, services offered to students, and technology implemented in the course of completing the nursing school’s curriculum online.
In the category of technology and service, Loyola’s nursing school ranked first ahead of well-known nursing schools at Duke, University of Florida, and Arizona State. The nursing school came in second in the categories regarding staff and teaching credentials and seventh under student interaction and teaching practices.
