This book is a must have for any student nurse who is planning on taking the NCLEX in the next year. The book has been updated with all the newest information that is on the exam. The book is very easy to follow. It comes with a practice CD, practice tests and answers in the back of the book, and the standard sections that help refresh the memory on learning topics. This book also contains test taking tips and strategies to help students pass boards. The breakdown and explanation of the questions and answers has been improved from previous editions. I highly recommend this book to all student nurses. This is pretty much the golden standard. The do offer a money back guarantee if you fail boards, but it is just a refund for the price of the book, not for the test fees. So study up!

Coming from a newly registered nurse, this book was my saving grace on taking and passing the NCLEX on the first try. It helps you dissect the question to find out what it is really asking and offers very practical and useful strategies in how to look at the question. It even comes with a CD w/ many practice questions and rationales and has a paper version of the test in the back. Had I not used this book, I’m pretty sure I would have failed the NCLEX because the test tests more of your critical thinking skills than it does your knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, etc.

NCLEX-RN: STRATEGIES, PRACTICE AND REVIEW offer a fine test preparation guide for any taking the NCLEX-RN exam. Two practice tests – one on an accompanying CD-ROM – review all basics, provide detailed answer explanations and analysis, and provide the latest information. A new content review section and strategies for CAT techniques and success make this a ‘must’ reference for any student.

The word-on-the-street regarding the NCLEX is that the Kaplan program is the go-to source for test prep. With this, I have to agree.

As you probably would expect, this is a big book loaded with information. One of its strengths is that you get two complete practice tests. This gives you a chance to pick through one test gradually and then do the second test at a quicker rate.

Perhaps the most valuable thing about this book is that you can pick and choose the sort of test prep that will work the best for you…

    – If you want to go deeply into a bunch of questions and carefully read the analysis of the answers, that’s here.

    – If you want a more casual experience: making yourself comfortable with the format of the test and the sort of things to expect, that’s here.

    – If you want to focus on test-taking strategies: learning how the test structures certain types of questions, that’s here.

    Worth every penny.

Kaplan has a reputation with local students for being *the* program to go through if you want to pass your NCLEX-RN. With announcements that the NCLEX is going to be even harder now, all the more reason to get guides to help me practice before the test. And to get a guide that is updated to the newest test.

The book gives an overview of the exam. You need to know WHAT is on a test to be prepared for it. Then 77 pages of test strategies, related to the NCLEX types of questions and subjects. The next sections of the book cover the categories of questions on the test. With overviews of what you need to know and practice quizzes, with explanations. Finally, a large printed practice test with explanations.

The back of the book has information on licensing, what to do when you have to take the test again, and information for international nurses. Finally, appendices of important materials like common medical abbreviations.

The book comes with a CD-ROM. Once you open it up, you’ll need somewhere else to store it because you’ll need it each time you want to take the practice test. The practice test is timed..like the real NCLEX. You can’t exit and come back and finish (doesn’t save) which is like the real NCLEX, but not so great for studying in segments. You get the results back with explanations behind the questions.

Online there are more questions for practice, which is important for those of us who want to practice many times. For the non-tech folks, it would be better to get a larger practice book.

I am not relying on one book to give me all I need for the exam, but this book is carefully designed to give you a significant review to nursing school and to help you feel prepared for the exam.

I am a registered nurse and I used the Kaplan NCLEX-RN as part of my study regime for the NCLEX exam. This is the latest edition. Kaplan is a must for nursing students. It not only provides the user with test questions in the book, but it also offers a test very similiar to the actual NCLEX on disk that can be installed on the computer and used over and over again. What makes Kaplan different from other NCLEX study guides? It not only provides hundreds of sample questions but it also gives the rationale for all the answer choices, so not only do you know why the correct answer is correct, you also are told why the other three options are not correct. If you take the time to read all the rationales, even on the questions you answered correctly, you will gain a wealth of information and will hone your NCLEX test-taking skills. Kaplan also offers an indepth tutorial on test taking strategies that will prove invaluable. The NCLEX is not like any other test you have ever taken. All of the answer choices could be correct for the topic the question is testing on, but only one answer will be the best answer. Kaplan will help you learn to look for what the question is really asking and to answer ONLY what the question is asking. I highly recommend getting this book as soon as possible, even if you are only in your first semester of nursing school. It will also help you improve on your grades in nursing school since most of those tests mimic the NCLEX style of question. This is the best use of your money for study guide material and if you can only afford one NCLEX study guide, buy this one. Good luck.

    very good book!

Kaplan prep classes are so expensive, like $500 now. If you are on a budget, get this book, the “medications you need to know for the Nclex” book and then a question bank such as the “Nclex Rn 4000” and you will be good to go.

I followed every suggestion, started from page 1 and I am convinced this was the perfect choice in NCLEX review books!! I love the way it is written, I can relate to every scenario and tip it offers. I have taken each sample question and followed their advice. Now that I am almost finished with the book, I am able to answer most questions correctly. I am confident that by the time I sit for my NCLEX next summer, if I continue to quiz myself according to Kaplan, I will do very well! I have recommended this book to my classmates and I look forward to succeeding with them because of it!

This book is a must have for new grads preparing to take NCLEX. The stategies are what make the book worth every penny. If you already have a strong base of nursing knowledge, reading this book front to back and applying the strategies when answering any review questions will equal passing the NCLEX on the first try.
